Where preservation and architecture come together
Our Foundation was established in 1986 to maintain and preserve the Townsend House and its historic surroundings.
The Townsend House
The Townsend House is important both as the work of a renowned architectural firm and for its place in Washington’s history.
Restoration Projects
The Foundation has funded major structural repairs and restoration of exterior features of the Townsend House, including the roof, façade, windows, gutters and marquise along with improvements of the electrical and plumbing systems and installation of fire suppression sprinklers.
The Townsend House Exterior Restoration was completed early and under budget!
The CCHPF has used donated funds prudently to provide grants to the Cosmos Club for preservation and restoration of all exterior elements of the historic Townsend House. The entire exterior restoration project as planned has been completed early and under budget. In addition to the original scope of pressing work, we have addressed additional items considered for future near-term work, including resetting, cleaning and repointing site walls and the main entry stair, and replacing the deteriorated main central roof and sections of the mansard roof on the east and north facades. Advancing the additional work allowed for efficiencies and savings on escalation; the cost of the work was completed within the original project budget.
